Projects: Mature-ifying Our Apartment

We have a gorgeous apartment, but not all our furniture and decor match that beauty, or match each other. We have hotel chairs, Ikea tables, Walmart shelves, etc. etc. College-y. Here my plans for how we’re going to update- slowly- update our apartment.

Bedroom

Right now one wall is completely occupied with plastic shelves, the other by our bed.

Recycled Cardboard Painting

I made this a while back ago, but I thought you guys would like to see it! This is part of my Home Decor happiness, not really a DIY, but I’ll just post pictures and tell you about my process.

While I was in school, I found these used and broken, battered and destroyed pieces of cardboard next to the trash. They are super thick cardboard that the art students use as cutting boards. Most of them were in pieces, but I saved a few of them that were still whole (although gouged). I had NO idea what I was going to use them for, so they sat around for a long time.

I then, impulsively painted them white. Just didn’t want to do anything else to it than give them a good coating of white paint with a tiny brush while I consumed the entirety of Downtown Abbey (three seasons of episodes at that point). I had no idea what I wanted to do with them, then we moved into our apartment, Mr. Fox and I and I figured out exactly what I wanted. We had nothing on the walls yet and Mr. Fox loves bicycles, so why not?! I drew it out in pencil first, then took black paint and got to it! It took me almost two weeks of five minutes here and there and whenever I felt like painting. The chairs are there to show you the size reference. It now sits on the wall behind our sofa. It’s nearly the entire length of our sofa too.
